Fixed Costs of Probate in NSW
Regardless of whether you choose to apply for Probate with a solicitor or yourself as an SRA, with or without the support of Probate Consultants, there are some fixed costs that will be the same in each scenario.
The fixed costs associated with a Probate application in NSW are:

- Advertisement Fee

1. Probate Filing Fees NSW
The Filing Fee payable to the Supreme Court of NSW for a Probate application is determined according to the gross value of the deceased’s assets located in NSW. See the Filing Fee tiers below:

The Probate Filing Fees in NSW are amongst the highest in Australia. For estates over $2M in value, no state or territory charges more to file an application for Probate of a Will.
2. Advertisement Fee
A Probate Notice must be published on the Supreme Court website for at least 14 days before the Court will review an application. This is the mandatory advertisement period.
With the introduction of the Court’s Online Probate Platform, the advertisement is automatically published when the Probate application is lodged electronically. The cost to advertise the Notice is $53.
3. Postage
Once a Probate application is lodged online via the Probate Platform, the original Will must be delivered to the Court in person or by post. If using the post, an A4-sized Registered Envelope is recommended as it is trackable and requires a signature upon delivery. This envelope costs around $7.
Note: The Court will not review an application until it has received the original Will, and the Probate Notice has been published for at least 14 days.

If you choose to apply for Probate yourself, there are no extra fees payable to lodge a Probate application outside the fixed costs outlined above.
